August was started in January 2009 by Robyn Victor. After studying Graphic Design and Advertising in Cape Town and a course in Fashion Design, Robyn went on to work for 3 years designing for a big retail house before starting her own label. August aims to provide a relaxed approach to clothing combining timeless pieces with diverse elements. Globally inspired details add a worldly touch.
"My inspiration has always been drawn from travel and the array of cultures one is exposed to. This notion of cultural inspiration is actualized through the clothing I make. I feel strongly about rediscovering traditional hand embellishment, utilizing these techniques as much as possible within my designs. I love the haphazardness of hand beading, the texture of hand embroidery, and subtly mixing designs that are simple and feminine, using soft and natural fabrics. August is not trend but rather lifestyle - orientated, its a label for seeking your essentials and aiming to create relaxed clothes that exude an elegant edge."
