As a Durbanite who learned the art of jewellery design and making in a Mexican mountain-village, Green's work has an unusual story to tell.
From engraved Perspex cuffs to customised rings her label has been featured and wanted as the epitome of contemporary South African style. She has also recently introduced a line that introduces stitching made by local craftswomen from the township Mandela Park.
"A stitch in time saves nine": "Stitches" is an initiative to empower unemployed black women in Townships in and around Cape Town. Being introduced to groups of women in community centers around town I saw the passion and creativity that equals my own and I also saw my chance to make a difference. The women are now in charge of my range of designs that incorporate stitching, embroidery and beadwork. The pieces become a work of art and a stepping stone for a better future."
We love cuffs. We love Philippa Green. A simple accessory that gives any outfit some extra edge is this engraved Gold King Protea cuff. With exquisite engraving and detailed design, this chunky piece will make a statement wherever it goes. We also love the sentiment behind this beautiful design in exhibiting South Africa's national flower in a manner that should make any South African proud. This versatile piece can be used to dress any outfit up or down, and can easily be worn with feminine earthy toned items, fitted jeans, legging and some strappy sandals, or even your basic black cocktail dress. Throw in a gold clutch and some black and gold gladiator heels and knock the socks off of that someone special.
